Meridian Area Guide

History

There earliest inhabitants to settle in Meridian lived along the Five Mile Creek where fresh water was readily available most of the year. The first school here opened in 1885 and the United States Postal Service established a mail stop along the railroad line named Hunter, after the school’s first superintendent. The area became more popular as a trade center, and in 1893 an Order of Odd Fellows chapter established a lodge here named “Meridian” to honor of Idaho’s principle surveyor.

Meridian Dairy Days Festival & Marketplace

Meridian Dairy Days is held in June each year, and the event celebrates the community’s heritage as the dairy center of Idaho. The event began in 1929, and each year there are a variety of dairy-related activities planned by the Meridian Chamber of Commerce and the Meridian Dairy Show Board.

Meridian Farmers’ Market…and Bazaar

Originally held in the heart of Old Downtown Meridian, the Meridian Farmers Market has more than doubled in size since its inception in 2005. The market has since moved to a new location on Eagle Road to accommodate the growth in visitors.
